The most efficient work right now is probably a combination of voice input and AI. AI start-ups like Wispr Flow are popping up one after another that can give voice-directed design instructions. Connect it to Codex, Cursor and Claude Code, further confine the internal context to their own mechanisms with the Model Context Protocol (MCP). This would extremely increase the 'React' (recursiveness) of AI.
All engineers understand the structure of this area, I think they already feel that they are working "out of body". They don't code by hand. It is faster to talk than to think. There is no longer a keyboard between the brain and the AI.
When Claude Code was first released, everyone was surprised that "the AI corrects its own mistakes and keeps optimising". Human reflexes could never catch up. And now, Claude Code is doing 90% of the development of Claude Code itself. When I saw this, I thought, 'This completely changes the definition of the engineering profession'.
AI is already faster and cheaper than the world's top 1% of engineers. In terms of economic value, human engineers have become almost worthless. --At least in terms of "production". But **the value of humans has not disappeared.**
What will remain are two areas.
One is the job of creating 'triggers'. Why create it? For whom and what is the point of doing it? Only humans can still have those feelings and impulses.
The other is the task of understanding 'context'. The information on the digital world is only part of the neat and tidy world. The atmosphere within a company, the conversations behind the scenes, the relationships that cannot be named - these are the realities that do not appear online. The ability to read such "realities that don't appear online". This is an area that AI has yet to touch.
As AI recurs perfectly and humans become completely abstract, We are becoming more and more "engineers without bodies". But maybe that is why we are writing code to regain our bodies.
